Bangalore women will man capital flights today

Air India will operate “all-women crew” flights between Bangalore and New Delhi on Tuesday to mark 100 years of International Women’s Day. Bangalore-based pilot Capt V Roopa will be in command of the Airbus A319, while Capt Niranjana Ashok will be her co-pilot.

The cabin crew will comprise Mohita Ponnappa, Sneha Annagiri, Shruthi Chowdhury and Rituparna Dasgupta, all hailing from Bangalore.

The flight AI 506 will depart to Delhi in the morning and return to Bangalore with the same crew in the evening.

The national carrier will be operating 11 “all-women crew” flights across its wide network of domestic and international stations to mark the occasion.These flights will also be part of the celebrations marking 100 years of civil aviation in India.

Air India created history in December 1985 by operating the first all-women crew flight in the world from Calcutta to Silchar on a Fokker Friendship F27 aircraft. Since then, Air India has been operating all-women crew flights on International Women’s Day.

Air India, for the second consecutive year, will operate an all-women crew ultra long haul flight tonight from Delhi to Toronto, to mark the International Women’s Day. Last year, for the first time in the aviation history, Air India had operated the ultra long haul flight from Mumbai to New York.

Capt Rashmi Miranda will be the commander and Capt Sunita Narula, the first officer on this commemorative flight. Harpreet A De Singh, head-QMS. will carry out a line observation safety audit.The flight will be despatched by Rashmi Verma.
